Noli Manere In Memoria

"Overconfidence will destroy you"

 I go by Arkee. I'm a Sephiroth fangirl, videogames enthusiast, tea lover, fic writer at times and occasional fan artist ([illusioneery]), who sometimes makes gifs and comes up with headcanons.

 This is a (personal) sideblog. I follow back through [illusioneery]. I have a BYF/FAQ (mobile: /byf)

 Multifandom | Shipper | Insomniac | Shitposter | Often Screams About Gackt

temporary pinned (since my bio is outdated as heck) while I don’t have the energy to edit here:

they/them (other pronouns also fine if we know each other, just don’t call me a woman)

wingneery/artbywingneery on twitter, Arkee (writing under the illusioneery pseud) on AO3.

I’m against censorship and harassment over fiction in fandom spaces. Ship and let ship, Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That’s Okay (YKINMKATO), and stuff. The cool kids of nowadays call that Proshipper. If you got a problem with that and want to go all keyboard warrior on me, maybe you shouldn’t be on the internet to begin with. Or mayhaps you should curate your own online experience better rather than yelling at strangers.

I don’t support either Project Reunion or Zack’s new VA. Unless we know each other, don’t inquire me about either of those.

If you’re icynovas and you’re doing alright, DM me if you’re comfortable with doing do. I literally just wanna know if you’re alright. Please.

Hey there, fellow Sefikura shippers! The year is hours away from its end over here (and it’s ended in some places! Happy new year!) and it’s also time for another edition of the Sefikura Appreciation Week, an event that runs from January 25th through January 31st, during which you can share your love for this ship through fanworks in the #sefikuraweek tag.

Prompts can be found below. Feel free to be as creative with those as you can¹, and take your time working on your entries, but please don’t forget to post them in the right date².

===============================

  • Jan. 25 || Day 1. Surrender
  • Jan. 26 || Day 2. Cage
  • Jan. 27 || Day 3. Revival
  • Jan. 28 || Day 4. Longing
  • Jan. 29 || Day 5. Otherworldly
  • Jan. 30 || Day 6. Void
  • Jan. 31 || Day 7. Ephemeral

===============================

Please remember to include the week’s tag within the first 5 tags or else it might be almost impossible to find your work! If you fear you won’t be found anyway, please @ this blog or send a DM. Anything containing any Character/Ship Hate won’t be accepted, so avoid including those in your entries.(Making characters as villains is fine, however.) Also don’t repost anyone else’s work as your own! Definitely don’t harass other people and remember that fiction is fiction.

We’re also on other platforms as well! Find even more of the event in the AO3 COLLECTION or our very own TWITTER branch.

And if you have any questions, don’t be afraid of sending a message.

Hopefully it’ll turn out to be a fun event for everyone!

===============================

¹: please remember to tag content appropriately

²: delays are completely forgiven and I’ll keep checking the tag for 7 days after the 31st just to be sure

How to post images within a story on AO3

Not definitive. Not the ultimate. But it works for me. And I’m not a code monkey, so don’t ask me detailed questions (or you can ask if you want to watch me go “buh buh buh…). This is just what I’ve managed to patch together from other people’s instructions. I wanted it all in one place. And I wanted to share.

Step 1: Open your AO3 account. You’re going to create a skin that you’ll be able to reuse. On the left side menu, choose ‘Skins’. Click on ‘My Work Skins’. And then click on ‘Create Work Skin’. Paste this into the CSS box exactly as is:

#workskin img {
 max-width: 100%;
 height: auto;
}

The reason for this skin is to keep the image within the borders of whatever device the reader is on. So if they’re using a smart phone, the image will fit the smaller screen and they won’t have to scan over to see the entire thing. If they’re on their computer, the image will fit within the borders of that screen too. Technically you wouldn’t have to use this skin at all, but I find it annoying to have a large image on a small phone and not to be able to see it in its entirety. This is just something nice to do for your reader.

Give it a unique title (mine, for example, is ‘Whiskey image’, but you can call it whatever the hell you’d like). Save it.

Step 2: If you don’t have DropBox, get DropBox. It’s a free app. The reason you want DropBox is to host the image and DropBox provides a static IP address, unlike tumblr. Create your account in DropBox and upload the image/s you want to host. There are other hosting apps you can use. I don’t use them. If you think whatever you use is better, use that. As long as the IP is static, I don’t care. Just for gods sake, don’t use tumblr to host your image. Their IP addresses are subject to change and that will break your image link. (NB: Step 4 probably won’t apply if you use something other than DropBox.)

While you’re in DropBox on the website, notice that when you highlight the image you want to insert, there’s a ‘Share’ button. This will give you the permanent link you’ll be using soon.

Step 3: Create your story in AO3 (or, for an existing story, click on ‘Edit’). In the 3rd box down, called ‘Associations’, select the skin you saved in Step 1 from the drop down menu. This will apply to the entire story, so you won’t have to do it for each chapter if you’re posting multiple images.

When you go to copy and paste your story into the chapter text box, be sure to click ‘Rich Text’ before doing so. Then paste your story in.

Place your curser where you want the image. Go back to DropBox, click ‘Share’ and create a link, then copy the image IP address. Or, if you’re working off the app on your computer, right click the image and select ‘Copy DropBox Link’. Go back to AO3 and click on 'Insert/edit image’ from the menu across the top of the text box. Copy the link into the 'Source’ box.

This next step is very important! Do not skip this part!

Step 4: At the end of the IP address, delete dl=0 and replace with raw=1. If you don’t do this bit, all the other stuff is for naught and it won’t work.

So say it with me now. Delete dl=0 and replace with raw=1.

Right. Almost done, boy-o.

Fill in an image description if you’d like.

Leave the dimensions alone.

Click 'ok’.

The image should appear like magic. Preview it just to be sure. Celebrate your genius with the beverage of your choice.

This is so insanely helpful, and there’s not enough people that are aware of this. Especially the automatic formatting part is amazing – art in stories is awesome, but reading on a phone or tablet and having to scroll to the side because you can’t see the entire picture can be kind of annoying.

I‘ve used this for one of my stories before, and it works perfectly.

Also, yay for helping me finally figure out how adding pictures to Ao3 works!

Reblogging this over here as well because it’s really helpful!

Reblogging for my personal notes. I might try this in the future.
